Description

An invitational Grandmaster Tournament in association with Thinkers Publishing.

12 title holders and 4 wildcards in a nine round tournament.

During rounds 6, 7, 8 en 9 we will provide live commentary by GM Gennadi Sosonko (NED - 2520) and IM Lorin D'Costa (ENG - 2375) and there will be opportunities to ask questions. Also, the games will be streamed via Lichess.

15:15 School chess initiative Christel Minne
Chess workshop for children. This workshop will be given by Christel Minne, Freinet School teacher and author of the Thinkers book: “Later I will be queen”. Through various games, Cristel will take the children into the game of chess. All chess pieces will be presented in a playful way. Through a game and the method described in her book, the children quickly get the chess virus. This workshop is free and is aimed at children between 6 and 16 years old.

Chief Arbiter
Geert Bailleul is the highest-ranked International Arbiter from Belgium.

He is Chairman of the Arbiters Council of the European Chess Union and is a Councillor for the FIDE Rules Commission. He has a lot of experience from world and European championships all over the world.

He currently is the president of the Royal Belgian Chess federation and the chess club of Bruges. He is living in Bredene.

Tournament Director
Being an active player, International Master Tom Piceu is also a well known trainer and organiser.

He organises the yearly Bruges Masters tournament and he acts as tournament director for the Belgian national youth championships for 8 years in a row now. Apart from those bigger tournaments, he is also very active in the organisation of youth and school tournaments.

He has achieved the title of International Organiser from FIDE.
